Q. What are my chances of getting a showcase?
A. There are approximately 50 showcases at each regional conference, and about 80 showcases at the national conference. On average, NACA receives over 500 showcase applications for each of the regional conferences. Keep in mind, not all showcase applications are music acts, there are many comedy and novelty acts that are accepted to showcase as well.
Q. What does the average college show pay?
A. The average college show for our current artists ranges from $500 (minimum, singer/songwriter) to $3500 for a full band. Hotel and meals are usually provided by the schools. There are nationally-touring acts showcasing at NACA that charge over $10,000 per show, for instance, Zac Brown Band. If you're not sure what to charge, NUDE will help to adjust your pricing after you've filled out the entry form.
Q. How many shows can I expect to book if I showcase?
A. Assuming you listen to our advice on how to perform your showcase, you can expect anywhere between one and ten shows per showcase. We know of bands that have booked over $100,000 in shows from one showcase, but we consider more than ten shows in one conference to be extremely successful.
Q. Can I apply to showcase as a singer/songwriter and then bring my full band, or vice versa?
A. Hell no. Your showcase format must match exactly what's on your entry form. If you are able to play in both formats, sometimes we suggest applying as a full band for your home region and applying solo for any other regions, since it will be easier to travel farther alone. Keep in mind that you might have to travel far, not only for the showcase itself, but also to return to that region for the shows you book, which could be one-off dates.
Q. Will all of my college dates be one-off dates?
A. NACA works together with agencies to try and get students to coordinate the schedules of multiple colleges, so that artists can play multiple schools in one week. However, this only works out about half of the time, so
yes, you will have colleges offer you one-off dates. It is up to you as an artist to discuss the mileage, costs, and time you will have to be away from your day job
before accepting a date. Once you have accepted a date that NUDE has negotiated for you, we expect you to keep the commitment, barring any catastrophic events. NUDE reserves the right to charge artists commission on canceled shows if we feel you are continually canceling shows unnecessarily. We do not require that you accept all offers.
Q. How many regions should I apply for?
A. As many as you can afford without stressing yourself financially. Please avoid applying to regions that are far away from you if you are not willing to travel there for one-off college dates, especially if you do not have a good club booking agent to help you fill some dates along your route.
Q. Who chooses the showcasing acts?
A. A small, top-secret panel of students from various colleges within the region.
Q. How much commission do you charge?
A. 20% of the gross check you receive from the school.
Q. What's the term of the NUDE artist contract?
A. That's a trick question. NUDE contracts on a show-by-show basis and never requires long-term contracts from any of our artists.
Q. Can I apply to NACA myself without an agent?
A. Absolutely. And your showcase application fee will even be a little cheaper. But you will also be required to purchase a membership to NACA and your booth
before you know if you have been selected to showcase. Total cost would be between $600 and $1200 due up front. For a list of the fees to join NACA as an individual,
